Okay, I am back from vacation and ready to really kick some b _ _ _ ! ! ! I got my "eating plan" from my personal trainer, he is not too happy with it but wants me to follow it for a couple of weeks. Right now it is 20% protein and 60% carbs. He said he wants to see how my body reacts to it for weight loss but wants to go with more protein and less carbs once I get used to working out more, he said right now, in the early stages of working out, I need more carbs for energy. Does this sound right?

If you get your carbs from healthy sources--whole grains, veggies, oatmeal, legumes, low or nonfat dairy, some fruits--it should be fine. Carbs help fuel muscles and aid in building strength--though you will probably want to change the ratios. many people on this site favor a higher protein diet. I personally find that I have the most energy (and keep my weight down) when I'm at about 30/50/20 (protein/carb/fat) AND I keep refined sugar out of my diet and choose my fat sources wisely. I also do alot of cardio, as I'm a cyclist and runner. When I am focusing more on lifting, I tend to up the protein. Also, try to break your food into 5 meals--it really helps stabilize blood sugar. PRetty soon you'll discover what works best for you.

Good luck with your program!

They have it set up for 4 meals a day right now. I know that I tolerate higher protein much better but my trainer said to try this for a couple of weeks then he is going to do more protein. I know my blood pressure was low yesterday and I had to add a protein bar to my food for the day. The food is all "good/clean" food but I just do better with more protein. I will live with this for a couple of weeks though.
