I am joining a soccer team and need to increase my ability to run for a long period of time (45 minute halves) and the ability to burst. I am using the General Workout and wanting to know how do I put a running program in my weight lifting program. Anyone have suggestions or ideas? Thanks in advance for the information

I would suggest Plyometric exercises for building explosiveness. Building stamina will take a little more time and can be done by running long distance.
Remember, do not incorporate any of these prior to weight training. Either do them at separate times during the day, or on non-weight training days. Otherwise, your weight training will suffer.
Good luck!

A great excercise for building explosiveness and stamina is called fartlek. I did whistle fartlek throughout my running career and man there are some memories. It was one of those drills that we always dreaded but loved at the same time. I guess it could be considered a form of HIIT. Anyway, here's a good reference to use when incorporating this into your training.

That fartlek program looks good (despite the name), and resembles a form of HITT I did to prepare for rugby season. My program consisted of 100 yd. sprints of increasing intensity: 50%, 75%, 100%, repeat.... with walking or jogging in-between (the curves of the track). I would mix in a few days where I just ran 3 miles straight, too. Like Robert said, watch how you mix your cardio and weight training. I always have to drop deadlifts in-season because the combination with sprinting causes severe tightness in my back.
