Sounds good to me - I like the approach of using a non-discreet way to keep them from being embarrassed. It probably won't take them long before they are comfortable in the gym environment.
My brother and brother in law have just joined my gym and have asked me to help them out. They have both not done any exercise of such for over five years and both want to lose weight (not gain muscle) and it is around 20-28lbs. Their long term goals are to become more cardio fit and remain a toned weight once they get the above weight off.
I have advised them about their diet and about lean body mass which helps burn cals etc…so weight training is the way forward to do this and also to perform cardio to help shed the pounds and help keep the old ticker happy.
However, they are new to the gym and they feel a bit embarrassed as they cannot keep things going for too long.
What I have planned for them is the traffic light system.
There is an express gym with a traffic light system where by you perform on each station until the traffic lights tell you to move on. This includes an all over weights session, one station per body part and has cardio stations in between. This is in a separate room to the rest of the gym.
My thinking is if they do the traffic light system they can push themselves as much as they feel comfortable and will not feel embarrassed. It will also help burn off the weight for short term and will build their confidence.
Then once they are ready then they can go to a more advanced and specific routine.
Any comments on this?
