I am trying to minimize the size of the muscles that come from the back of my neck to my shoulders. I seem to be inadvertently making them larger (possibly by shoulder shrugs?). I would like a clean line from my neck to shoulders and well rounded shoulders. I have broad shoulders and large arms.

Stop the shoulder shrugs...
Try front raises and reverse flys.

Lol, I'd say work the rest of you harder to catch up with those muscles:).

my trainer has told me to keep my shoulders down and back when I do the chest, back and arm exercises. If you don't keep your shoulders down you are working that very area extra and it becomes larger than rest of the muscles. That's what I have been told and hope that's correct advice. Someone correct me if I am wrong. :dumbbell:

for future reference, that muscle is the trapezius or traps, and they are the primary target of shrugs. That's the main way to hit the traps, so if yu don't want traps, staying away from shrugs and upright rows should help. You will still inderectly hit them with most presses, but not directly.
