Hello, I was wondering if anyone knew the time frame before your muscles start to deteriorate. The reason I'm asking is because I was a bit under the weather for about two weeks and it has disrupted my workout schedule. I'm sure it will be fine for me to jump back, I'm just curious about muscle atrophy and the time it takes to regain the lost muscle.

The biggest reason for atrophy is diet. If you keep a consistently good diet while off, you will retain your lean tissue. Most people when they take time off figure what the heck,I am not working out anyway, and gradually get out of their good nutrition program. Being sick doesn't have to be muscle wasting. Depends on what kind of sick. If you can hold nothing in your stomach, then chances are you will suffer some atrophy. But if it is just in the head(like sinus infection or cold), as long as you maintain your diet, you will be alright. You may experience initial weakness when first going back, but this will not last long. Regaining lost tissue is easier than if you never had it at all. Muscle does have "memory".Proper training and nutrition, the results are fairly quick.
