My health journey has taken a new twist. Starting July 9th, I start Muay Thai....aka Thai Kickboxing. After searching and researching many different Martial Arts, I found a reputable gym with a chief instructor who really cares about each student. I also chatted with some of the current students about "Ray" and the gym...each person had nothing but the best to say. I talked to 1 young man who had lost 96 lbs to date. He said he got into it just over a year ago...he credits his transformation to Muay Thai and "just cutting out the sweets". He's at the gym 3 days a week for 2 hours each time.
Watching the class was really neat. The class worked hard, it was up tempo, each student had respect for each other and was willing to help each other. I'm stoked...I cannot wait to get started |

Please let me know how it goes bull! I've been TRYING some kickboxing videos, and feel like I'm going to die. It's definately a good cardio workout. I wanted to do Tai Chi very badly, but it't not a cardio workout, and I already do yoga, and you know, there's only so many hours in the day! So, let me know how this class goes. If you love it, I may have to try to track down a class in my neck of the woods. Good luck!

I am, I'm in Omaha (Bellevue actually). I just checked your profile and see that you are from here. Where abouts? It's too bad that you didn't still live here! I've been looking for a gym partner. :)

Yeah...I grew up in a tiny town called Creston, which is 20 miles north of Columbus. I lived in Omaha(Papillion) and also Plattsmouth for about a year.
Actually, tomorrow I'm coming back home to visit for a week. I'm getting excited! There is nothing like Nebraska...I miss it. |

Good! I love it here.
Funny thing. I have NEVER heard of Muay Thai before this thread. Last night on the Fit channel they had a show about it, and I saw some advertisement for classes for it. Funny how once you hear of something, it seems to be ALL you hear about. I think it's a little too rough for me, but seems like a great "manly" sport. hee hee. Enjoy your visit back in the Heartland! |

When I was watching the class there were 3 women participating. These women were really tone...they are training for the World championships.
I get back to Indy on July 8th and start classes July 9th. I hope it helps my reach the "next step" in fitness. I get bored lifting and running alone. |

I hear that! I brought my workout schedule to work today so that I can modify it a bit. I really need to get some more cardio in, and mix up the routines a bit. I'm getting bored.
As far as the women in the class, I think I've got a ways to go before I could consider that type of sport. Until then I would just look like a monkey trying to get out of a pillow case (not that I know what that would look like, just guessing.) |

Update..... I started with a private session Monday, the 9th. I was shown "the ropes" of the gym. Did some light exercizes and was shown the very basic kicks and punches. It was very strange, since I had never done anything like that before.
Yesterday July 11th I had my first "real" class. Talk about a MAJOR change in workouts. I always thought I was working out hard. I guess I was just fooling myself. It reminded me of highschool football and basketball practice. We did a ton of different pushups, situps, lunges, jumping rope, not to mention the practice sparing we did with a partner. (Working on correct form. No actual live kicks or punches.) Needless to say, I'm a little sore today. But I feel great about where this will hopefully take me. |

Wow, congrats bull. Keep up the hard work! It sure looked like a hard workout from what I watched on TV the other day!
An update on my routine mix-up. I tried "Bhangra Dancing" the other night. Please refer to previous comment about a monkey in a pillow case. It's supposed to be an authentic Indian Harvest dance made into an Aerobic workout, but to me seems more like an African Tribal dance with arms a-flailing, head bopping, and feet stomping. It was a good, fun workout. But, I'm the whitest white woman in town and not the best "tribal" dancer. The kids and husband kept coming into the living room, would giggle then run away. Oh well. Screw them! At least i'm in shape. ha ha. |

Ha ha. After all of my complaining about my clumsiness, I agreed to start taking "pole dancing" lessons with a friend of mine. We'll see how THAT goes! ha ha ha.

I've heard of that before...I don't think that would be for me. LOL... I just can't see me and a pole getting along very well...I'd get bruised in places were a man should never be brused.:laugh::laugh: OUCH!!

I love the fight girls show on TV. I wish there was gym around here that had muay thai classes. Those women are in great shape.
