From my ealier post-
For those of us who have chosen the persuit & education of fitness our journey is a very long one indeed. Our goals go far beyond simply "tonning up" or "getting stonger", our goals are the type that require years or even a lifetime to achieve. We all know the pitfalls that can catch someone even when they are going for a simple goal, so how do we as devoted professionals find the motivation to overcome the many obsticals ahead? Personally I feel that much like our diet & training habits, that our lives too must have diversity in order for us to stay focused & achieve our objectives. Sometimes we become too narrow sighted & fixated on our goals to obtain the perfect physique or in our quest for additional knowledge, & this in itself can be extremely detrimental to our overall goals. I myself tend to obsessively focus on my education & training to the point that I am completely on edge & have trouble concentrating, so what is the solution? I feel the solution is simple, sometimes we must slow down & take time to just live ,without worring about whether or not our training is adequate our if we took in too many calories at dinner. The problem with too much focus is that eventually we get tired of chasing a goal that never seems to get any closer. One of my favorite analogies goes as so;
Driving down a long straight highway may be the quickest way from one place to another, however time will seem to slow & the trip will feel like it takes for ever. On the other hand the scenic country roads may take longer but the sights you see & the things you experience are so fascinating that time seems to fly by & before you know it you have arrived at your destination.
Point being; life is a journey, above all else enjoy the trip.

A good nights rest seems to give me all the motivation I need. Sometimes its hard, buts its something that I know I can get if I think about what I want to do and accomplish the next day.

Write down what you desire to achieve with your training, break it down into manageable steps, set small, achievable weekly goals ('I will do cardio three times this week').
Write down something that motivates you on post-it notes and put them everywhere in your house.
I think one thing that motivates me a lot is thinking about all of the people who can't work out. I work out for them. I work out for my training partner's step-father, who had a heart attack at age 48, i work out for my ailing grandmother who can't walk, I work out for eberyone who has diabetes do to eating too much commercial crap and sitting too much.
If you want some good motivation you have to go inside and find your real reasons for pursueing better health and a better physique and let those reasons be your driving force.
I roll out of bed in the morning and repeat to myself my goals and reasons, before I go to sleep at night I check again for my goals and reasons and refine them.
Every day is a challeneg to be met with enthusiasm and as you look back over each day congartulate yourself for all of the things you did that advanced your cause and plan how to avoid or overcome the things that deterred you from your pursuit.
I am rambling, time to go do my shoulder workout!
Good luck!
