My program from this site says 4 sets for each exercise. I'm willing to do more if I knew it would not be counter-productive. When looking at those huge, competition level body builders, people always say, "he must spend all day in the gym." Is that how it works? If want results twice as fast can I do twice as much of a workout? Like if I work today's muscle group in the morning and then again this afternoon. Or would I have to do the double exercise thing all at once. Or what???

More is not necessarily better! In actuality, that can lead to overtraining and a complete halt in progression. Do more only if your body can handle it. However, you should keep the total number of sets to around 12-15 if you're a beginner. Your workout should last no longer than 1 hour (plus a few minutes when you incorporate stretching time). Anything beyond this could lead to overtraining and possibly injury.

It's usually never a good idea to rush into anything, everyone has to start somewhere.
