Hi, I had mono about 7 years ago, you can't workout while your sick, but you can afterwards, although I got CFS from it (chronic fatigue syndrome) and I still have it to this day, some times are better than others but you just have to deal with it...

If your doc says no then no, I knew a guy who had to quite football, and weightling for like 2 months.
I would ask if would be ok to walk, bike ride somthing of the sort...I never had it so I dunno.
best bet is to do what doc says

Hunny,
I had mono a number of years ago. I tried to ignore it initially (prior to getting a diagnosis) and lost 25 pounds in 3 weeks. I was right around 10% bodyfat (based on underwater weighing, not calipers) prior to the loss of weight.
Needless to say I lost alot of strength very quickly. When it was at its peak, even extremely short periods (8-10 seconds) of strenuous activity would knock me on my duff for the rest of the day.
I know its very hard for an active person to stop exercising for a while, but if you push yourself you will just make it worse. You've got to rest and get alot of sleep. Once you start feeling better, in that your energy level is improving, you will need to be extremely cautious about increasing your activity level.
The timeline someone needs to recover from mono can vary considerably from one individual to another. In my case it was about 3 weeks or so where I felt really lousy, but I needed to get an extra 1 1/2 - 2 hrs of sleep/day for several months after.
Wishing you a speedy recovery,
Mark

What is Mono by the way?

Infectious Mononucleosis~ its a virus similar to strep throat and the flu, but much worse, more severe, and a lot of people develop CFS or some other problms from it afterwards... you can get it from other people but the incubation period is like 2-3 months so you don't know when or from who you got it... you can get it from kissing, sharing eating utinsils, sharing drinks, etc...
