Hi,

How do I measure body fat accurately? I've tried online 'calculators' but besides caliphers, are any methods reliable?

Thanks.

Lots of us on this site use www.mybodycomp.com

As for reliability, dunno if any one is better than the other... just make sure you are consistent as different methods can give you different numbers....

Thanks Tim! I've been looking for a way to measure my body fat. I'm starting a new 8 week program and my scale is giving me differnet percentages EVERY time I try to measure. Arg! Very frustrating... So, thanks again. The site was exactly what I've been looking for.

You can also use the simplest method, the tape measure. If it measures less each time (around the abdomen) you are losing fat.

But the tape measure is not reliable? You could lose fat elsewhere, right?

Most methods of measuring bodyfat have their drawbacks. Face it the actual number doesn't matter much. The way you feel and look are much more important. Calipers are probably the most accurate method that doesn't involve a lot of bucks or vivisection. They cost about 20 bucks but are only as accurate as the operator.

What matters as others have said is pick a method and use it consistantly and you'll get a gage of where you're going. I've used mybodycomp.com for a long time and it will save your measurements from 3 months ago and you will be able to see where you're going. Don't get hung up on the number. If your pants get looser then you're fine.
