Well from what I am finding..and I have the same prob..the upper half of your ab you will see progress in..its the lower ab that bites. Hard to get under control and see progress with. Pretty common problem.
Chest and biceps? Thats what I am training now.
Unless you have a membership to a gym, go get some dumbbells and a curlbar. A cheap bench is good too.
You dont need to make a big initial investment.
If you have a bike to do a bit of cardio befor beginning so much the better..A mile or two depending on your condition, or even a good jog.
The program offered free here is pretty solid from a medical standpoint, but it takes discipline to follow it.
You just have to force yourself somedays when your tired from work.
I just finished todays program and my shoulder and biceps and triceps are like whacked. They feel like putty or rubber. My arms are so loaded up I can hardly type.
Thats good though, no pain, no gain, eh?
I always do a little extra I usually load up another 20-25 bicep curls then I do my abs.
I have had to start slow as my ab muscles are pretty weasely. But I load on one extra a day and do crunches (as long as I can)
Best of luck!

It seems that ab fat is the last to go and diet seems to be the key.

I am going to say this once and only once, and in this order.
1. ABS ARE MADE IN THE KITCHEN
2. CCC...cardio,cardio,oh and yeah cardio
3. ab training

Just wanted to add that ABS are also made by having babies! Along with nasty little markings indicating what you've been up to! :) Crunches on an exercise ball . . . ouch, ouch, ouch! But, they work!

Okay, not to highjack this thread or anything but this question is kind of along the same lines.
How often can the abs be worked out. I have been told that you can do them just about everyday? Is this true? Thanks much.

abs and calves are unique but they are like any other muscle they need time to rest...it may take different activites in order to get them to workout...in order to grow rest is needed....a muscle is a muscle

You might want to try a supplement called CLA. Its not that expensive, and it "supposedly" targets the fat around your abdoman, but don't hold me to it.

CLA... that's what the GNC people told me as well.
