Hi all! I found this board quite some time ago and have found it quite helpful...now I need some advice so I figured that I could ask what you all think...

I am a 19 year old female. I am 5'5 ish and about 130 pounds. For the past year, I have been going to the gym and lifting weights about 5 days a week. I also run 3 or 4 days a week for 30 minutes to an hour. I usually eat about 1200 calories and am VERY conscious about my weight. I have also dealt with eating disorders off and on so 1200 calories seems like a lot to me; although from what I have read I should maybe be eating more. I tend to eat alot of fruits, vegetables, chicken, salads, fish, soy products, and whole grains; although I do tend to have a sweet tooth and eat chocolate/candy more than I should.

I know I need to cut out the sugars and have started to wean myself off of them. The problem is...I feel like as long as I have been going to the gym and as often/hard as I work out, I am not seeing results. True, I can run longer than I used to be able to, but if anything I feel as if my pants are getting tighter (especially in the butt area- I, unlike most white women, do have a true butt).

I am getting depressed and upset about this as I really want to lose about 5 pounds. I can follow plans very specifically if given, but have trouble thinking up things on my own that don't linger around my old ED habits. I know that is not the way to go and lose weight and am trying as hard as I can to stay away from that- although I find myself restricting more and more the longer I go without seeing results.

I was wondering if ANYONE had advice or specific plans that I could follow...any help would be immensely appreciated as I am so incredibly confused! Thanks ahead of time!

Here is a bit of advice.... You need more calories. 1200 calories is too low.... I know this may seem kind of funny in order to lose weight, but you need those calories for the activities you do.

Break your meals up to 6 different meals a day, and I would suggest a minimum of 1500 calories. Anything less would hurt more than it would help.

Shoot I look at food and gain 5lbs...not to make light or your concerns but 5 lbs? That is nothing! Just relax, and be happy....and remember in the overall scheme of things related to fitness 5lbs is not that great of a deal is it. I think maybe you need to look at what you eat and maybe the reason you are not seeing results is that you are running way to much and not eating....add like sbroyhill said 300-500 cals of good lean protein and veggies and cut back a tad on the cardio and up the weights and see what happens.

I know what you mean. The biggest problem that I have is with sweets too, I dont eat a lot of them, but I really think what I do eat is hindering my weight loss. Maybe you should try to lay off the sugar, that Is what I am trying to do. Also I have been running too, and it took me about 2 months to see any results. I hope this helps.

Try laying off the sweets for five weeks and stay very strict with the cardio and that five pounds should melt off in no time. So festivef here is what you do........ Step away from the sweets, go ahead you can do it:big_smile:

For your activity level....your caloric intake is wayyyy too low....you may have depressed your metabolic function where it decreased siginificantly.....whenever you take considerably less calories than your body requires for an extended period...your body's metabolic rate decreases, making it more difficult to lose weight...even when you already barely eat anything....Avg person uses 11*130=1430
calories daily...if the person just sleeps or remains completely inactive...with your amount of cardio and weight lifting....you should probably be eating around 2000 calories....focus on eating more healthy and creating the caloric deficit for fat loss through cardiovascular training rather than nutrition...

instead of starving yourself...take in about 1800-2000 calories...with 200g protein, 200-250g complex carbs, and about 22g healthy fat....

eat 8-10 meals a day(meals+snacks)

drink 0.5-1 gallon of water....

You are doing a lot of cardio.....so on days that you do cardio you may want to take more carbs .....
