With such a topic so broad we truly try to cover the basics from all angles in this group. Nothing too big or too small. Nutrition is as significant if not more as exercise is to reaching your goals so learn all you can.
Okay, please explain this to me.
If a pound of fat is equiv to 600 calories, then someone who wants to lose 2 lbs in a week would have to burn 1200 calories per week or over 170 cals per day.
Stay with me now, If someone consumes 1500 calories and their Resting Metobolic rate is say 900 calories, does that mean that one would have to burn 600 (1500 cals minus 900 cals at rest) + the 170 cals for the 2 lbs weight loss goal?
Actually a lb of fat is 3500 calories. If you are trying to maintain your muscle mass than you'll only want to shoot for 1 lb per week altough 2 lbs is feasible with some muscle tissue loss. In order to do this you must burn 500 calories below your required daily caloric intake (your rmr x activity level) I have found it best to do this by sonsuming at least 5 meals a day & dropping 100 cals from each meal. In addition the body will quickly adjust to the reduced caloric intake therefore 2 days of higher caloric intake (+ 500 cals) is reccomended every 5-7 days. Hope this helps.
