Why is it that after an upper body workout I am pleasantly exhausted but when leg day rolls around I feel like I am going to die afterwards LOL! My whole body feels spent and takes several days to recover.
I am sure it has nothing to do with intensity since I work my upper body to the point of failure each time but still recoup much faster.
I have read here that working your legs also helps build upper body. What is the reasoning behind this?
As always thanks in advance!

I know exactly what you mean. I experience the same thing with my legs. I think that you feel it more when you work your legs because maybe you dont work your legs as much as your upper body. I think that is why i was experiencing such pain for days after the workout. Working your legs does help you with upper body gains because the upper and lower body stay in perportion with each other. Basically, if you never work your lower body then you will not have large gains in your upper body. Im not sure of the exact science behind it but I have even heard it from personal trainers. Hope this helps!! :dumbbell:

The reason for that is because most of the compound exercises....are legs/back and target way more muscles than any single upper body exercise....squats,deadlifts, shrugs, pull ups,etc...

additionally doing exercises which recruit the most muscles....elicits the biggest testosterone response in the body which in turn helps build all muscles....this is why doing squats helps achieve bigger chest or arms....on top as already pointed out....body likes to keep muscles in proportion so if you want big arms ......you best believe that you'll need big legs and back for your body to rationalize the need for bigger arms...

There's generally much less muscular damage after upper body exercises so that muscles recoup much faster than after lower body exercises....

From personal experience....no matter how hard I go my upper body is recovered 3 days after....my legs and back can be sore for almost a week after brutal workouts....
