As most of you with young families will know, it is often difficult to avoid eating in fast food places. I currently end up with a chicked burger (McChicken Premier/BK Flamer or similar), but is this the least bad option?

Anyone got any suggestions to which food I should eat and avoid in these places?

Thanks in Advance

Dave

alot of these places now have salads with chicken or whatever on them. Wendy's looks like they have the best selection though. Hope this helped.

Try # 1 to avoid these places and encourage your kids to not eat there.
# 2 if you still instist on going there go for grilled chicken burgers with no mayo, or go for one of the salads....but beware the dressings...sometimes those pouches can be 300+ calories. Opt for no processed cheese. At Wendy's you can get a grilled chicken sandwich, ask for no bun and just the veggie toppings, a side salad and plain baked potato. Use their hot sauce to add some flavour.

I'd skip the sandwiches completely. At McD's, the "grilled" chicken isn't truely grilled. It comes to them with the grill marks, etc already there. Plus fast food places put butter on their buns and toast them to make them taste good.

Definitely beware of salads from fast food. :) Get it without the processed cheese, don't use the croutons or crackers, and don't get the dressing.

Or if your kids insist on going there, take your own salad or healthy sandwich made at home in a tupperware bowl and have it while they have their McD's.

I've gotten in the habit of getting online and finding out just what the nutrition facts are. Then try to pick the lesser of all evils, like you said. Lately though it's just all bad for my eating plan, so I try to limit the trips and only get for my son, then I eat what I'm supposed to when I get home.

For fast food Subaway is #1 on my list. Even the kids LOVE it. You can get some pretty low fat subs and high protein.
Carbs are a little high.
When I do eat at Macs I have the chicken mcgrill, no bun, and the veggies.
Otherwise the kids eat at home or no fast food.

Thanks for the advice guys, unfortunately Wendys hasn't made it over to this side of the Atlantic (UK) yet - or at least the places I frequent - and I only know of 1 Subway (but thats not somewhere we go often). I tried a Macs salad the other week (in Spain), and it consisted of lots (and lots) of lettuce and a sprinking of chicken and croutons.

We have tried with healthier foods, but our daughter is an awkward eater, and she does actually eat chicken pieces and fries, whereas if we go to a healthier food place, she hardly eats anything. When she gets past this stage, we'll start introducing more variety and healthier options!
