Hi there, I'm an 18 year old girl and Ive come to realise im not as fit as id like to be. I cant walk very long distances without being out of breath. I had my daughter two years ago and I'm afraid my body isnt in the correct shape for my age.And I'd love for my chest muscles to be more defined and my stomach to be, well not exactly flatter, but defined and in proper shape. I'm sure at this age im not supposed to feel like an old woman!! I really want to get healthier and stronger before its too late to change my lazy ways.My calf muscles and thigh muscles are also really badly out of shape. I'm not fat, im just not fit. My legs are very weak and I hate it. :0( I have given up smoking for two days now, not a lot i know, but better than still smoking 20 a day i am sure! The reason i gave up is because i developed a nasty cough and i have occassional slight athsma. I have no access to a gym because i am at home with my 2 year old daughter all day. Does anybody have any ideas for exercises i could do at home? Thanks in advance.

Welcome! Right now the best thing for you to do is walking or maybe a exercise tape like tae-bo or something like that. You need to ease into things and make sure not to activate the asthma! If you have cable there are a lot of programs on early in the morning that are very low inpact. For weights you could use cans of soup. yeah they are light but that is what you need right now. How is your diet? And what amount of water are you drinking? Hope this helps!

Good advice Mutt. you can get some light free weights to start off with and check this site for many exercises you can do at home with them. There are many videos you can buy to do these exercises at home. And the fitness mags feature things too. Basically any exercise not on a machine can be done at home. Walk Away the Pounds is a good cardio walking exercise you can do at home and is the equivalent of walking anywhere from one to five miles depending on the tape you buy and you can stop at any interval you want. You can get this at Wal Mart. Go to your library and get books on proper form for using weights and have a ball. There are books on yoga, pilates, weights which are all good for home. Wal mart has good prices on mats, balls, and weights. So you can buy one thing at a time if money is an issue. I know of two people personally who lost a great deal of weight by doing it theirselves and exercising at home and walking for cardio (money was tight for them and time) and they look great and have more strenght and energy. Anything can be done.

Thanks for the advice guys. I dont actually live in the U.S, I live in Spain. I presume Walmart is a shop there?
I hope it doesnt matter that I am not a U.S resident?
7707mutt, i have bought cans of soup to do the exercises, thats sounds really funny!
How much water should i drink?
i think my diet is ok, i dont eat a lot of junk food. I eat pasta and fresh vegetables and fruit almost everyday.
I eat boiled eggs and scrambled eggs too.
