Well, I'm not technically in it. I'll be in Army ROTC starting August this year. I'm on a 3 year scholarship, so I have to get the times. My problem isn't running, I was in track since 5th grade and know how to work myself to the time. I don't even have problems with the sit-ups (though I'd like to do more). My problem is mainly the push-ups.

See, out PT test, we have to get 2 miles in 19 minutes, 50 sit-ups in 2 minutes, and 18 push-ups in 2 minutes.

We have this weight machine, I even worked out on it for a while (sometimes for an hour). But the next day my arms wouldn't hurt. Though when I was doing the weights my arms would shake. So I don't know. I need help fast.

I'm sorry if this is also on the wrong board, I'm not too sure what one it goes on.

What problem? It takes me about 20 seconds to do 18 push ups. Back 2 years- I could do about 2 and felt sore. So have you messed up the number, should it be 180 or 80 rather than 18 ?

What ever the number you know the score- assess how many you can do and aim for an extra 3 a week by regular training. You will do it.

Take a deck of cards, flip one over and do the amount on the card. For face cards do ten, aces 11. Take breaks between cards. Do it while you watch T.V. Do them until you cant do anymore.

Hate to tell you this but the military standards are changing, I am sure ROTC will be last to implement it here ya go:

1.5mile: max pts 9minutes 40 seconds
Situps: Max pts at 60 in 1 minute
Pushups: Max pts at 60 in 1 minute
Waistline: max pts at 28

This is regardless of what you weigh, and this is for a guy, I am not sure if you are a guy or Gal, I assume guy by your time for the run... I am suprised, AF old standards was 18 minutes for the 2 mile, thought the army would be harder, I know Marines get 24 or 21 minutes for a 3 mile. Keep in mind, you get max points for those times, the more points you get the better, it is like a total of 100pts and you get 30 for waist, 10 for pushups, 10 for situps, and 50 for 1.5 mile. Also, if your over 25 the times and # go up a bit, and down for the pushups/situps. You have to score a 75 to pass.. it is way to detailed to go into how many points for what time, all I can say is if your waist is pushing 40" (not your pant size, but your girth around your belly button) You are going to have problems. GL in ROTC

To avoid all confusion, these are the requirements for the Army right out of their order. Relique for the record the run time for max points in the Marine Corps is 18:00 for 3 miles.

Here it is:

The Army Physical Fitness Test
The APFT is the Army's measure of individual physical fitness. Active duty personnel are required to take the test twice annually - usually about every six months.

The test consists of three events: the Pushup (PU), the Sit-up (SU) and the 2-mile Run (2M). Pushups and sit-ups are each timed for a period of two minutes while the soldier completes as many correct repetitions as possible in that time. Proper form for each exercise is required and taught by our program. The 2-mile run is conducted either on a 1/4-mile track (8 laps) or a designated 2-mile course.

The scoring charts below indicate the MINIMUM and MAXIMUM scores for men and women at different age groups. Each event is worth 100 points for a total test score of up to 300 points. You must achieve a minimum of 60 points* in each event and a minimum total of 180 points to pass the test on active duty or as an Advanced Course cadet. If you score 100 points (or greater) in all three events then you have "MAXed" the PT test and are eligible for the extended scoring tables for 300+ scorers.

*(First time cadets and cadets not under contract only have to score a 50 across the board in order to pass)

APFT SCORING MINIMUMS & MAXIMUMS
AGE GROUP
17-21 22-26 27-31

SIT-UP (min/max reps) 53/78 50/80 45/82
Male PUSH UP (min/max reps)
42/71 40/75 39/77

Male 2 MILE (min/max time)
15:54/13:00 16:36/13:00 17:00/13:18

No, I'm a girl, that's why everything's so low. lol. And these are the requirements I have right out of the packet they gave me about a month ago.

I can do 18 push-ups. I just can't stay up for 2 minutes. You're not allowed to get out of the push-up position until the 2 minutes is up.

Oh I am sorry I assumed (incorrectly) that you were a male. Pardon my sexist attitude. Perhaps if you filled in your profile we here on freetrainers would be better equipped to help you.

Eh, you aren't the only person. Actually, I think everyone's that's ever tried to guess always thinks I'm a guy. lol. It's just the screen name.

I've been meaning to fill in the profile. I got a little sidetracked with school.
