Remember what you learned in grade school about proper diet, and foods. Dont believe anything on labels, and in magazines.

I have often wondered about the protein thing myself. I am not a vegetarian by any means, but neither am I an avid meat eater. I do eat some meat just about each day, but it's just not my favorite thing. I'm not going to set in to eat a half a chicken or a 10 oz. steak. I tend to average only a serving or two a day. I do like peanut butter, though, and I know it has protein in it. Eggs are okay, again not one of my favorites. I read somewhere about the "peanut butter diet" where you are allowed 2 tablespoons a day. The person I read about who was on it ate the 2 tbsp. every morning on a piece of toast and said it helped keep her full during the day. Can anyone comment on the possible effectiveness of this? I don't know much else about this diet, and I don't think specialized diets like the ones where you only eat certain foods (grapefruit diet, etc) are all that healthy, but would eating peanut butter help in this way?

Don't know about muscle building, but I read today that it takes twice as many calories to process proteins as it does to process carbs. Don't know . . . anyone?

Whoa,Whoa,Whoa, If your goal is to build solid muscle mass then YES protein is worth every penny. In order to gain muscle mass you must give your body the ideal nutrients including protein and its usually more than one can take in with food everyday. It is also more convienent with as busy as most people are these days. Peanut butter diet. NO. Eating peanut butter as part of a balanced diet yes. You will want to make sure you buy the natural peanut butter because the other name brand peanut butters contain hydrogenated oils and added fats that you do not need. The reason peanut butter makes you feel full is due to the carbs and protein contained within. As far as calories and processing food this will vary depending on your personal goals. Good luck

Being a diabetic and trying to bodybuild I would have to say that without protein I could not have maintained my muscle mass. I recently gained about 20 pounds and it will be my protein intake that will help me maintain what muscle I didn't lose and help to build the muscle that I will gain back.
