Is it safe to to decline bench presses without a spotter?

My arms aren't long enough to get the bar onto it's true resting position, so I rest it on the steel welds that are there for the bench to do incline bench presses. Logically, it should hold the weight since it has all the weight when I do inclines, but it just feels scary when I'm under it doing declines.

I lift at home with no spotter, so I just wanted to ehar from any of you if you think this is dangerous or just fine.

Does your cage not have multiple slots, pegs for the bar? mine does and I just use a lower one. I would lighten the load if not. You can also hit the same muscles with dumbells. Declines are great chest developers. I think they hit more areas of the chest than any other bench exercise. Could you block up the bench on 2x10's???

The height of my bar is adjustable, but it only goes up from there (I assume to do squats etc...). Maybe I'll give it a shot with dumbells.

My bench is attached to the bar area, so I can't boost up the bench height.
