I am having a career change in about 18 months. At this time I will be finished with my degree, and I will have to attend the police academy. I truly have no idea how to go about training for the academy. I do know that they do a 6 mile run everyday for the 1st 2 weeks here. I am a moderate asthmatic. What can I do to condition myself for this run over the next 18 months?

i can help.. to condition yourself, first, you gotta like to run. how far and fast do you run? it takes time and patience. just start off slowly, runnin every other day. stretch properly, before and after. and do the stretches for 2 minutes each. it may not be necessary, but i like to. you gotta time your runs. i usually do 8-9 minute miles when i wanna run 6. gosh, i really gotta know what you do to give you better advice. what kind of physical condition are you in and all. and what you do for a workout? age is a factor, too. i think

you should practice doing sound effects, like the black guy on the film and probably brush up on your slapstick comedy.

I actually hate to run, but I do it anyway because it is supposedly good for me. In a day I usually run 2 miles and between classes nd up walking anothe 2-4 miles depending on my class schedule. I do not run pavement because I suffer from shin splints. it usually takes me about 20-25 minutes to do the 2 miles. Oh yeah, and pritchard thanks for the advice, but I think that th wise cracks and the sound effects from the movie would get me thrown out of the actual Police Academy.

lycancade..my current workout consists of 2-3 miles on the treadmill before doing a High Intensity Workout which consists of only one rep, but at max weight I can handle to failure. I split up my workouts by doing one day of cardio and upper body, one day of cardio and lower body and one day of cardio and abs...I repeat this cycle everyday 6 days a week. I take Sundays off.
