Hi all,
Little thorn in my side with my diet...I wake up all night long on 2 hr intervals since I am hungry. I am eating my correct calories per day but I am trying to break the habit of midnite snacking from a life time of doing this. The way I see it I have two undesirable alternatives that I have tried:
a)Drink lots of water and still wake up every 2 hrs to take a leak
b)Have something that takes a while to digest like a small teacup of cottage cheese w yogurt
One alternative leads to still snacking and the other leads to a terrible nights sleep. Any tips from you folks out there?

First of all no carbs at all in the evening. 2nd, try eating a slowly digesting protein like any piece of meat. I know it's not very appetizing, but it might work!

Thats a tough one. The first thing I would look at is why you are waking up every two hours from sleep. Broken up sleeps are never a good thing.
Maybe you should eat a meal before bed. A cup of cottage cheese and maybe some veggies (or a banana) to fill yourself up would help. And don't drink to much water before bed!

- If your hungry all the time, your not eating enough. And anyways, being hungry sucks.

If you are hungry, your metabolism must be really revved up.
How many calories are you getting in during the day, may not be adequate. Your caloric needs may actually go up as you ad muscle, this may be why you are hungry at night.
I know when I am pre-contest dieting and eating up to ten times a day, I wake up starving at night. I keep a shaker of plain isopure, zero carb whey protein next to the bed, drink it and go back to sleep. That seemed to be the least sleep disrupting way to deal with it.
Do you feel rested when you wake up? It seems it would be very hard on your body to wake up every two hours, you would never get the deep, restorative sleep you need.
Cottage cheese or a protein shake made of whey and casein blend proteins (one is faster absorbing, the other will clot and sit in your stomach longer) may help.
ood luck, I hope you get some sleep!

I don't know why it happens jt...but I get that too. I have had good results with a tablespoon of peanut butter and a glass of skim milk. It's weird but it works for me;)
