How does one go about becoming a personal trainer? Ive read that they can make good money, which would be beneficial for me as Im just graduating college, and know a good amount about health and fitness. I also imagine it wouldn't be as dull as many other jobs, seeing that I get to meet new people all the time.

Ive read that you should be certified, but then read somewhere that you need to pay somewhere between $300-500 for that certificate. Is that right?

Also, are there a lot of liabilities that come with fitness training (i.e. a lot of room for lawsuits etc.)?

And, can I just get a job at a gym or something where they supply my clients, or do I have to pimp myself out to strangers?

Anything else I should know?

Froshman,

There is more to being a personal trainer than just getting certified, although that is the necessary first step. Any decent certification will run you around $500-$600, but if you do your homework, it is money VERY well spent.

I am certified by the International Sports Sciences Association, and their program is very thorough, and their support after certification is incredible. They also teach you business development, and it sounds like you could benefit from some information in that area.

I recommend that you check out their site at http://www.issacertifications.com and click on any of the "Join the ISSA" buttons to be taken to the information request form.

Good Luck!
