i lift every muscle 3 times a week is that too much?

You can't posibly expect to gain anything like that! I'll be surprised if you have. You see what happens is that you're not giving your muscles enough time to recover from the last workout that you gave them and they are only getting broken down even more after every workout. This, in time could actually lead to muscle loss. The muscle only weakens and weakens because you are training it too often. A good routine would be one where you train every muscle group at least 5 days apart. Meaning, if you do biceps on Monday, you shouldn't do biceps again until Saturday for example. And the same with every other bodypart. There are some exceptions I believe. Some muscles recover faster than others. Some say that you can train abs and calfs every other day. I personally don't. Hope this informs you a bit on how to train better.

Most people, and this is by far a huge generalization, train each muscle group once a week. A lot of muscle groups are secondary in other movements so actually get worked out more than once a week without the direct isolation. But that often is just overtraining for sure, you might hurt yourself.
