I have been having alot of trouble losing weight. I recently went to the calorie counting method and I am falling around 1800-2200 daily intake. I have lost almost 6 pounds and it hasn't even been a week yet! Kinda scary as my eating habits have not changed much at all. I have always drank mostly water so its not a water weight issue. I know that 1-2 pounds a week is recommended...so is my loss too much or will this level off? I should also state that I ride a mountain bike off road for about 15 miles a day for the exercise.
Even if you drink lots of water you will still lose water weight at the beginning of cutting your calories. This is because when you create a calorie deficit you use glycogen (the bodies stored carbs) every gram of glycogen binds (I think) 4 grams of water and this is released when you eat into these stores.
Having said all that 6 pounds a week is not sustainable. I would stick to the higher end of your range for the next week and if you lose more than a couple of pounds increase your calories by 250 (if you don't lose anything cut by 250)
It would also help to know your weight and height as well :)
6'3", 275. The chart I used said I need to take in around 2250 until I added in the 60-90 minutes of hard mountain biking then it jumps to 3000! I didn't realize that mountain biking chewed up that many calories in an hour!
oh yes, cycling really eats up the calories. Even though you're trying to lose make sure you eat some complex carbs/protein an hour or two before you go and eat as soon as possible after you've finished to feed your muscles and keep your metabolism up. If it's a longer cycle (90mins) you might be as well having a sports drink during the bike ride as well.
