I usually take 2 of either before a practice so that my arm will not get sore or my legs will not hurt. Is this an ok thing to do? Sometimes I will take 1 or 2 more after practice as well, but I haven't done that in a while.

that's fine...just follow the dosage on the package.....what you take sounds reasonable...

however keep in mind that recent studies show that ibuprofen taken to relieve soreness actually slows down muscle repair...if it's really muscle soreness that you're experiencing then I suggest you just suck it up....if it's something more serious it might be a good idea to sit out from the practice....also keep in mind that when you work out while your muscles are still sore it can lead to overtraining...(especially if you go hard each and every practice...)....

Many people are fine with regular ibuprofen, but it can cause gastritis and gastric ulceration, and occasionally cause kidney damage (in addition to possibly reducing your gains, as menace points outs) so I would avoid, unless you really need it.

just to add....tom prince( a pro bodybuilder)... i believe almost ruined his kidneys ....not with tons of steroids he was taking but with simple OTC pain killers....like these...granted he took like 8 a day....but nevertheless....be very careful...

Well, its only baseball practice, but my throwing arm often times will bother me (probably from overuse). I really can not seem to throw like I used to anymore, just because I am so worried about hurting my arm worse. I used to be a third baseman but with my hurt arm, I can't give the same, hard throws I used to do. The ibuprofen helps my arm not hurt (at least for the practice) so I can actually throw good.

If you have any alternatives to ibuprofen (besides sitting out, because that isn't gonna happen) I would greatly appreciate it. I would ask the coach... but I'm already a bench warmer and saying I am injured isn't going to help things out. Would ice or heat help my aching arm?

icing it after practice is essential...for 15-20 minutes
...also applying tiger balm/bengay warms pretty good also

beyond that....you need to strengthen your shoulders......cleans are good both for strenthening your shoulder and teahcing your body create explosive power....start light...practice form...with very light(20-30%of 1rm) warm for sets of 10 with 3 reps.....then progress...to higher weight...for 2 reps...

military presses, front raises, lateral raises....to strengthen overall shoulder......

glucosomine/chondroitin supplement might also help....

but sitting out is a legitimate option....going through pain will mess up your shoulder...so that if it gets bad enough you won't be able to play at all....don't try to suck it up....that's not smart....take a couple months off...shoulder injuries can last a long long time...so be very careful....

Thanks for the advice, I will definetly start icing my shoulder/arm more often, and work on strengthening my arm and shoulder. I appreciate the advice.
