sorry somtimes I don't read completly lol just skim lol...............I lost and gained alot on my lift for a while then I plateaued cause 2200 calorises was sufficient for a while, then I leveled off. SO I had to add more calories. I'm just saying, if he's a beginner it woudl be easier to do one or the other than try both and get fustrated.

It is possible to put on muscle and a little fat and lower your BF%. If you gain 5 lbs of muscle and 1 lb of fat the overall% goes down.

In addition to what Howdie said its in BB1's journal that he was setting lifting PR's while cutting for competition. These are strength gains. Not sure if he added weight in muscle.

what i was saying by adding in the 8lb net loss is that really i lost 12lbs of fat but gained 4lbs of mass. so i did make muscle and strength gains while losing fat.

andrew i disagree, i've done it. i had a net loss of 8lbs and added 40lbs to my bench during my last strength cycle. it can be done, it just takes a ton of discipline.

what your asking sounds funny..........if your get rid of fat, then you are geting leaner. less body fat you have, more muscle wil show threw your skin.
now is your askling can I get bigger( muscle wise or strength), and loose body fat, then I would have to say no.
one is extra calories to build muscle, the other is a reduction in calories to tap into body fat stores, to get rid of fat. See the differance?

I've been looking around trying to figure out the best way to build lean muscle mass and lose fat at the same time, most articles and sites I've read indicate that you will need 2 phases a bulking and cutting to accomplish this. I'm currently 220 lbs i want to be at the same weight but much leaner. My question is how realistic is it to put on a considerable amount of lean mass while taking off fat?:surprised:
