I have never ran before in my life i am 22 -male -175 pounds and i tried to start running at least a mile today for the first time and the front of my legs started kinda hurting like i guess my shins? the part above the foot and below the knee, that entire space there but more towards the bottom of the leg in the front. Is this beginners hurting or what? because i was running at a moderate pace for about 2-3 minutes than it was just a pain to run because it hurt

Welcome to ft and a healthier lifestyle.
The pain uyou felt is a condition called shin splints. This is caused by 2 problems.
First, find a shoe that has good support and good fit.
Second, build up your leg muscles by means of resistance, and don't go for a moderate mile the first time. Start off by walking the mile between 15-20 min. Thats a fast walk.
Then, increase speed weekly, but not drasticly. Hope this helps.

I would suggest stretching also. Take your shoes off - hold on to something so you don't fall - and...hmm...how do I describe it?? Basically, take one foot and point your toes back so it's almost like you're "standing" on the top of your foot. Don't actully put weight on it like that, but stretch that muscle along the front of your shins. You should feel it. Hold that, do both sides. Do it a few times a day, and that should help releive some of the pain.

I hope I explained it OK, anyone else have ideas?

In order words, flex your foot so htat you feel the stretch. Pointing your toes will help stretchthe calfs.

well i hate running do to the fact i'm 245lbs lol hurts my knees. but as carivan said make sure u have good shoes, and when u run there is also a " form" just liek any other excercies, are u running flat footed? cause u should kinda run on ur toes, let ur toes touch the ground 1st before ur heal to " absorb" the shock of ur body good thick insoles help too...........also there is an excercise that helps too....its called a reverse calf raise let me explain
u can do this at a laying leg curl machine by siting on it and placing ur toes under the pad( ur toes should be pointed) and pul ur toes toward ur body( can't do much weight) this works the muscles on the front of ur shine, another way is to put ur heal on somthing high and let ur toes hang off, and pull ur toes toward u flexing it burns like hell , and the muscle on the front of ur leg is cool looking too not alot of people have them

Oh carivan in the case of starting off slow , i am going to start like you say with walking the mile in 15-20 minutes, i am going to start off with walking normally and then maybe say like 7-10 minutes in i will go with the fast walking..would that be ok or just start off with the fast walk
