Hi,
I want to know that when I go to the gym for the first time, how I must try the weights for bench press and squats or the other barbell excercises to finally find my suitable weights for these excercises.I'm 5'5" and about 65 Kg = about 140 Pounds.
Thank you for your help!

start of with a light one.see how many reps u think its 2 light increase it so that u can u can make 10 reps in the first set.then increase it slowly.the second last set should make rep of 4-5.the last set should be the initial weight and initial reps.

I think that if it's your first day in the gym, start with simply the bar and increase the weights, you don't want to lift a weight that you think will be easy and end up tearing a muscle. Also I think that 4 reps for the first time is too much, the muscle needs to get used to working and contracting, I think that 8-10 for the first 2 weeks sould be good.

its a trail & error procedure. make use of those really ligh plates (2.5 lbs/ 5 lbs), by increasing the weight for exercises like squats and bench presses when you feel that your current weight isn't high enough anymore.

a general rule is to try and do more reps for the exercise before increasing the weight.
