Okay, so in the duration of pretty much this whole year I havent been eating well. I ate about 500 or less calories a day and now I want to start doing it healthily. When I ate the way I did (500 cal) I weighed about 125 lbs. But I started eating normally and working out every day for 2 hours during these past two weeks. I also started drinking protein shakes. But I seem to have gained a lot of weight. I think I weigh 140 now and I'm 5'7". Is this normal to gain a lot of weight when you've been starving and then gradually lose it or am I doing something wrong?
**Also, with the protein shake. Since I work out at like 6 in the evening. I come home, have my protein shake (usually takes me like 5 mins to drink it all) and then I go to bed. Is this a bad thing to do?? I really want to get down to 125-120 before June. Please help! Thanks!

It is normal for your body to gain (a little) after you've deprived it but you can keep it under control. If you haven't figured out what your maintenance intake is, you need to do that then you can adjust your calories (slowly) downward. You need adequate protein but it has to fit within your total intake and if you've put on 15 pounds, you're getting too much food or the wrong combination. I personally don't like to take protein at bedtime whether I've worked out or not. I like to take slow digesting protein like cottage cheese.

Mike is right, You need to determine what your maintenance calories are and adjust from there, I will IM you something showing you how to determine them, check your inbox. I would still have the protein shake right after your workout and with some simple sugars, take it with you to the gym ready to go minus the water. This is a time when you need it. Drink 1/2 then sip the other 1/2 over about 30 minutes. I would also suggest having a meal when you returned home with a good protein source and complex carb, regardless of the time. This is also a time when your body needs it.
