I have been experiencing pain in the area at the top of my hamstring. The discomfort is in the glute area. If I attempt to squat or jump, it is painful. The pain is more ache than a sharp pain. I first noticed the pain after stretching my hamstring after running. Any ideas on how to treat this injury or what is causing the discomfort?

How long have you been running?
Did you just start stretching?
What kind of stretch was it?

I have noticed that if I take a long time from stretching this area I get what feels like a pulled muscle if I am too aggressive with the stretching. Achy pains usually ensue. If you have not tried it, you should look into self myofascial release in the form of foam rolling. It can make a world of difference with achy or knotty/tight muscles. Here is an article from Runners World briefly covering the topic.

Here's another that is a little more comprehensive.
