There could be many reasons...is it only close to your scalp?

I wish I could see it, I could probably tell you right off the bat...but since I can't, we will have to do a little cyber consult...

Is the breakage really close to your scalp and does there seem to be more of it close to your hairline?

My wife's hair does that when she wears it long. When she cuts it short the problem goes away. BTW hec, what number are you?

You might try Nioxin. I have a lot of trouble with breakage because my old lady (over 40) hair is really wavy but not real elastic anymore. The nioxin shampoo and conditioner have helped a whole lot. I spent 40 years perming my hair because it was as straight as a board, now I spend most of my time trying to get it straight.

Nioxin is a great product even if you do not have elasticity problems...especially if you have fine or thinning hair. It has no plastic resin in it's composition, which is what is normally used in haircare products to carry the scent. It wouldn't hurt anybody to use it, but because it is so expensive that I only reccommend it when there is a target need for it.

Anni, it is amazing how hair changes as we "grow":) Normally, that is caused by an increase of the cuticle layer (the "skin" of the hair strand) My hair is fine and straight, but the grey that is announcing itself around my hairline these days is so unruly, that I feel like shaving half of my head!:laugh:

You are right, Nioxin is expensive but worth it. I'm not spending as much money on useless junk to try to fix it anymore and there aren't 800 bottles in my shower anymore. lol BTW, my gray hair is so unruly that we did end up giving a spiral perm because there was no other way to control it. It didn't really fix the problem but it did disguise it. I'm glad I'm not the only one with wild old lady hair. lol

Something else you can have your designer try is a glazing treatment...can be done over your color or in a clear if you don't color. It processes with heat as opposed to peroxide and by it's nature, wraps around the cuticle of the hair. It will help hold the cuticle down and give you a more smooth texture until it fades off. (And it gives a lot of body too.)

Why is it that the grey ones have to announce themselves in such an obnoxious manner?

They're that loud guy at the ballpark, everyone else kind of blends in, and then there's that one guy jumping up and down, waving, "here I am!!"

I'm still somewhat in denial and my husband plucks them for me.:)

That glazing sounds intriguing, from a girl with naturally curly (flyaway) hair..

Yes, they are a pain...let's blame God again, shall we?

Do you know if your salon carries Redken datdanigirl? The Redken Shades is my weapon of choice for glazing unruly hair. If you are having a little grey challenge, your stylist should be able to mix a glaze formula that wouldn't really change your hair color, but still blend those greys.

Before you run out for product...answer me one more thing, what are you using right now?

And, another thing...your regular shedding and growing cycle could be in hiatus, especially if you have pretty significant changes in your diet (loss or gain) lately...what could be looking like breakage could actually just be new hair growing in.

The way to tell would be to look at the ends of the hair you find in your brush...(or anywhere if you are like me)...if they mostly all have little white "bulbs" on one of the ends of them, then that is not breakage.

Another thought for you, if you have long hair and wear it up alot try wearing it down for abit. I notice if I wear my hair up in pony tails etc. for too long that I get alot of breakage and the signature "fly aways" Just an idea for you to think about. . . oh and Nioxin is the brand, you can pick it up at most salons or supply stores.

I just have random, lone strands of grey that show up periodically, always in the same general area. Haven't considered coloring yet. Actually, if glazing holds the cuticle 'down' that probably means straighter which I DON'T want.. I just want fuller and smoother, more separated curls.

Actually hair and salons is a very sore subject for me today. Very bad haircut last night. Dear friend has cut my hair for years. Used to work in a very prestigious salon, got married & had babies, hasn't gone back to work but still cuts hair at home.

Always did a great job for years but these last few.. I think she's lost her touch. First time I've wanted to cry over a haircut in years! :(

No, it won't hold your curl down, just polish it off.

My clients tell me that finding someone to cut curly hair is difficult. I personally am not curly hair challenged, but I do know that mistakes show badly with that particular hair type. I will only apply a certain layer application to curly hair because of that. I'd rather clean it up a bit more after I have it styled than to have to say to an exasperated client, "it'll grow back honey".:surprised:

I hope your next cut goes better!

A man is no good till he has a few wrinkles around the eyes and a woman is no good till she has a couple og silvery grey hairs. Just my H.O.:)

Seriously here. Hair breakage could be due to a lot of things. First of all are you dieting. That alone causes problems. You need good fats in your body from nuts, natural peanut butter, sardines, salmon, nut butters etc. Eat a lot of veggies too. Take a good multivitiman per day. Drink a lot of water. Next get your thyroid checked. Dry or breaking hair could be a sign of hypothyroidism. If that is ruled out go to a dermatoligist. There are many fungus type things that could be happening and with the right medication poof it is cured. NOw if you check out physically pay attention to your diet and eat good foods. Use this deep conditioning method which I swear by. Once a week heat up some olive oil and cocounut oil if you can get some in a pan till warm. Put it in your hair making sure the ends are covered. Put a plastic cap on your head or saran wrap and sit under a dryer for 20 minutes. If you do not have a hair dryer get damp towels as hot as you can stand it and wrap your head with them. Change the towel as needed for the 20 min period. Wash hair and condition as usual. As I said before, if health problems and diet is ruled out this treatment with hair vitamins will give you a great head of hair in one month. Let me know.
