Hello. I started exercising about 3 times/week at the gym including cardio and weight machines. It's only been 3 weeks but since I started I gained weight which is the opposite of what I was hoping for. Is it normal to gain weight at first since the muscles are building up or am I doing something wrong?

My advice would be to stay away from the scale. Use your clothes or a measuring tape to measure your gains. How are your eating habits?

Muscle weighs more than fat so it is possible to gain some weight. Hec has it right. If you are losing size then you are on the right track

I dont watch what I eat exactly but I have cut down snacks a lot and I cook a lot more now instead of fast food. I try to stick to a homemade sandwich for lunch. I have basically stayed the same size. My muscles do seem stronger and more toned Im just not loosing any fat or size.

You're probably replacing fat with muscle. I almost always gain weight first. I used to freak out about it, now I just avoid the scale......the last scale I had lied to me so I threw it away :) Good luck and keep working at it. You'll start to notice soon.

Thank you! I'll stay away from the scale and try not to be impatient.
