Functional Training

Ok, so lifting weights is getting stale. The summer is near and you do not like spending time inside working out. Well there is a great way to workout outside! It has been called Dino training, Strong man training. I call it Mutt’s Outside Full Body Blitz. My wife calls it crazy. You do need some equipment, but it can be found all over. Big rocks, logs, sand bags etc. And all you really do is lift it and carry it. LOL it is that simple! Let’s face it, being big is great, looking strong is fine but if you are like me I get asked all the time everywhere to lift and carry large heavy objects. I could not do this if I did not add in functional training from time to time. Big Andrew mentioned this in a post about carrying a washer out to a curb. There are times when being able to lift and carry awkward objects is not only a good thing but a needed thing. So what is the use of working out all the time if when push comes to shove you can not get the job done?

Ok, as I said all you need are some items found all over at your nearest home improvement store. Bags of sand are cheap and let me tell you carry a 50lb bag down to the end of the block and back will kill you! Also digging holes, splitting wood carrying logs, lifting cinder blocks and using just you fingers hold them. The list goes on and on. You will find that by doing this for just 2-3 weeks you will hurt in places you never thought of. My finisher is pushing my wife’s car, a Geo Metro. That also will kill you so start slow! This is not a plan to use all the time but a change of pace and it gets you outside in the nice weather.

Oh i'm a big believer in functional training.....why bother, if it can't help you?

If you can bench press 300lbs but can't haul wood without pulling somthing in your back.
