I just weighed my self today after 5 weeks of working out about 3-5 times per week. Workouts include 30-45 mins of cardio and 30 mins of training one muscle group a day. I have not dropped a single pound or lost any inches. I am wondering what I am doing wrong. Can any one offer any insight on this... Thanks

Week days
Break fast 2 slices of wheat bread and some butter Snack - Yogurt Lunch - Chicken and vegetables /chicken salad with eggs and avocado / Snack - hot chocolate and 2 choc. chip cookies cookies ... trying to exorcise my self of this habit Dinner - rice and chicken / Fish and veggies / Chicken and veggies with macaroni and cheese and corn bread Weekends Typically I'll have cereal for break fast and nothing during the day. Then go out to diner and have a three course meal :(. I have cleaned up my diet considerable over the last 6 weeks, so even though there's still some crap on it, I feel because of the reduction in my food intake, I shoud be seeing some results. |

Although you say you cleaned up your diet, there is still as you say a lot of crap in there. To see real results you will have to clean it up a lot better than that. What i think is happening here is (and correct me if I'm wrong) that the weight you have got on you at the moment has taken a long time to accumulate and all though you have cut out some calories from your diet you've not quite created a calorific deficit so your actually maintaining your weight. You may be crapping less waist than you was before due to your cut in calories but this wont reflect on your shape un till you cut some more. Going all day on empty and then having a large meal in the evening is a really bad idea too. what are your statistics? Height, weight, age.

I weighed a 186 lbs 4 years ago, I dropped about 30 lbs in 6 months and have maintained that weight (give or take five lbs) for the past three and a half years. I am now trying to drop an additional 20 -30 lbs, and I seem to be stuck.
Age 24 Height 5'5 Weight 161 Body fat 30% My caloric intake averages out between 1300 on a good day and 2000 on a bad day, what could happen if u go all day with out eating and then eat a big meal?? Thanks for you advice |

My caloric intake averages out between 1300 on a good day and 2000 on a bad day, what could happen if u go all day with out eating and then eat a big meal?? Thanks for you advice ============================ 1300 calories on a good day? You can't lose any weight because you are starving yourself! With such a low calorie intake and high activity level your body is going to hold onto any fat stores it can. Not only that but your also going to start suffering from malnutrition soon. Lets get this out of the way first: Eating does not make you fat. Eating poorly makes you fat. Five to seven small meals a day consisting of lean proteins, fibrous carbs and healthy fats in each of them. Go to the Diet and Nutrition Forums and read the Healthy Eating Grocery List for examples of what you should be eating. -------------- Lift. Eat. Rest. Gain. ~Brad~ |

You need at least a minimum of 1932 calories per day, everyday! -------------- Scales are for dead weight: We are not dead yet! Still trying to find out how to do the Hollywood Free Press. Ivan carivan@freetrainers.com Montreal Canada |

If your not getting hunger pains on 1300 calories, it sounds like you've trained your body to ignore or supress hunger.
Once you begin eating more, a healthy appeitite will return naturally. So long as you keep your eating clean and stay active you will not have to worry about weight gain. You wouldn't drive a car on empty for better engine performance, would you? -------------- Lift. Eat. Rest. Gain. ~Brad~ |

That means I have been recieving conflicting information ... it was a personal trainer that prescribed the 1200 -1300 calorie a day meal plan.
Breakfast - 2 slices of wheat bread - 200 cal Lunch - Chicken salad, with eggs, avocado and cheese - 400 cal Dinner - Chicken or Fish and veggies - 400 cal Snack Yogurt * 2 - 140 cal each Fruit -bananas, oranges etc total of 1280 + Is that really too little for an active 161 Lb woman trying to lose weight? If you throw in the cookies and hot chocolate and other junk I consume, thats about 1700 calories daily, is that still too little? 'Cos I feel I have been eating too much. Now am really confused about my diet ..... :surprised: |

Cookies and hot chocolate = Crap. These should not be considered part of your daily diet. Nothing but refined sugar and processed food.
========= Is that really too little for an active 161 Lb woman trying to lose weight? ===== Short answer: Yes. After you calculate exercise you can consider yourself sitting at around 1000 or less for your daily intake. You said it yourself; Five weeks and you haven't seen a drop in weight. Obviously something isn't working for you now. -------------- Lift. Eat. Rest. Gain. ~Brad~ |
