I've been working out at home for 2 years....On Saturday I got up and joined a gym...(finally!)....I'm probably going to workout around 6-7 or 7-8.....After the workout I'm going to have a shake with apple juice and whey...

Now my questions are:
Will it hurt my attempt to grow and lose bodyfat by having simple sugars that late in the evening...Or should I have an alternate shake? Also, since it is that late I'm probably not going to want to eat again after that....should I try to have something before bed..or just go to bed with just the shake....?

Thanks all for your help and suggestions.

Instead of using apple juice, why not mix your whey with skim milk? The casein type protein before bedtime helps prevent catabolism during sleep.

Shouldn't matter. I would always recommend casein type protein before bedtime...

You can eat after that but I would stay away from carbs before you go to bed. Protein is good before bed, because it helps to rebuild your muscles and they grow at night when your body is totally relaxed.
