Hi, I have been taking bellydancing for over a year but had to quit because of my back ( i have fibromialgia). I was wondering if anyone knows of some good exercises to help strengthen me up so i can get back into it. I've tried doing back extensions, on the machine, ball and the floor but they all seem to irritate my back. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
Try doing more rotational exercises. Russian twists, for example. To do those, get in a sit up position, flexed (your torso will be up off the ground as if you're midway through a sit up - 45 degree angle from the ground). Extend your arms out straight in front of you and clasp your hands. Then rotate to one side, pause, back to the middle and pause, then to the other side and pause and then back to the middle. That's just one example. Go to exrx.net for more.
