All, I have used fit buddy and have found part of what I'm looking for, I just need confirmation. When doing different muscle groups in the same session i.e Chest and triceps, I am currently doing one exercise for chest (lets say flys) for three sets 12, 10 and then 8. When thats done I move on to the first exercise of the tris (dips lets say) for again 3 sets (with dips 3 sets of ten). Then move on to the second exercise for chest, 3 sets, then second exerise for tris 3 sets etc..

Is this the correct way or should I do all 3 different exercise for the chest (9 sets in all) then move onto the 3 exercises for tris (9 sets in all).

Hope this makes sense.

Cheers,
Toad

Hi toad27, welcome to FT. I wouldn't follow your order.

If you are a beginner, it is better if you do your chest exercises first, and then move on to the tricep exercises.

I would also recommend working out the bigger muscle group out of the pair you plan on doing that day, chest in this example, and then move to the smaller muscle groups.

Hope this helps.

beginner? sort of. I have been working out on and off for a year but not strictly. I am at the moment trying to get a routine together along with a healthy diet and am more determined now than ever before. I have always worked out the way I described and wanted to check if it was correct or not. The way you suggested sounds a bit much to me working the same muscle group for 3 sets on 3 different exercises one after another. But if you sure this is what you mean then i will give it a try.

We do Chest then move to triceps, We never mix up sets when working out, concentrate on one arae then move to the next.

I would try to find different exercises that work different parts of the same group. Chest for example: I'd do bench, incline (for upper part) and decline (for lower). That way you're covering the whole area and not concentrating on one particular spot.

thanks all. I think i will change then. I will do 3 sets for each exercise, 3 different exercises for each main muscle group.

toad27, as one final comment I would probably do 4 or 5 different exercises for chest, legs and back, because they are bigger muscle groups... bis, tris, delts, traps they should be ok with only 3 exercises.

Hope this helps.
