I am slowly but surely building a home gym. I need advise on which equipment is the most vital to have at the start. So far, I have a heavy bag and speed bag (for my martial arts training), ab bench, and another bench which I can do leg extensions, leg curls and preacher curls (with incline and decline on both). Also, I have a barbell, dumbells and free weights. What should be my next investment?

not bad... multi-purpose machines would work out best since you can save money and space in contrast to cam machines. practically, all exercises I can think of can be done using free weight instead of machines so I'd say just stick to the equipment you have and have a great workout.

How can you use free weights to do things like lat pulls and all that cable cross over stuff?

did you ever do pull over (Great for lats and pecs) To work the back effectivly you don't need fancy cable machins. Try doing Pull overs, one arm dumbell rows, the bread and butter of the back workouts "bent over barbell rows. Do Incline, decline and flat flys instead of doing crossover cables for the chest(great for cutting). But generally you should be sticking to Dumbell press and Barbell press.
Purchase a chin up and dip station (cost 89.00) wide grip chins are a great back developer and dips do wonders for the Tris and chest.

For the first 5 years of lifting weights, u shouldn't really need to use any fancy machines. All I would ever need is an adjustable bench, power rack, chin up bar, a glute-ham bench and a couple of barbells and dumbells.

instead of cable crossovers, you can flat/incline bench flyes and instead of lat pull down you can always do chins, although a bit chalanging, but give them a try.
