What is an egg substitute? I noticed that there is a lot more protein in an egg substitute than an egg. Can you get it at a grocery store? Thanks

Yea, you can get an egg substitute at a grocery store. It's either artificial egg, or it's simply egg whites only. It comes in like a small milk container-looking thing. If that makes any sense.

most egg substitutes are egg whites with some type of acid added to preserve the freshness and some color added to make them look like they have yolk in them and some type of added ingredients that help them fluff up when they are cooked, and sometimes added flavoring.

here is the ingredients list from eggbeaters:

INGREDIENTS:
Egg whites (99%), less than 1%: Natural flavor, color (includes beta carotene), spices, salt, onion powder, vegetable gums (xanthan gum, guar gum).

Vitamins and Minerals: Calcium sulfate, iron (ferric phosphate), vitamin E (alpha tocopherol acetate), zinc sulfate, calcium pantothenate, vitamin B12, vitami nB2 (riboflavin), vitamin B1 (thiamine mononitrate), vitamin B6 (pyridoxine hydrochloride), folic acid, biotin, vitamin D3.

Contains: Eggs.
