So far I've heard that weighttraining should always be done before cardio, since your body uses up glycogen stores during the weight training and you end up burning off more fat during the cardio session after, yada yada yada... But I've also heard that you should eat something at least 30 min after weight training. How will that work out if you're doing 30 min or more of cardio after weight training??? Snack on a protein bar in the middle of your cardio session??? :(

make a shake...either 1:1 or 2:1 of carbs to protein...and sip it.....as you would with water....so drink/sip it during the last part of your weight training session and through cardio....or you can simplify things and just take a shake(nutrition bar is ok also) after you complete cardio....then eat something solid(a meal) about an hour later....

What I do since I'm up at 4:30 AM is get up have me a couple slices of Whole Wheat Toast while I'm getting stuff together, then workout (Weight Training, followed by 30 min of Cardio), then Protein shake, then 30-45 min later eat breakfast. Seems to be working well for me.
In the next few weeks I'm going to try to do my cardio on off days...just don't know how or when yet. However I know that's the better way to do it. Think I'll try to get up there for lunch and bust out 30 min.

Its not so much what you eat but the way your body uses it.
Yes weight training uses glycogen stores because your using your body anarobicly (without oxegen) and as oxegen is needed to burn fat your body turns to its glycogen stores for fuel. Taking in carbs after weight training has two purposes 1. fast carbs (ie high GI) will raze your blood sugar levle wich will enduce insulin which helps transport amino acids from your protein suplyment to make your muscles grow. 2 if you are on a faairly lo carb diet and have managed to depleat enough glycogen during your workout, you will be in a state of GSC (glycogen super compensation). This is where your muscles take up more glycogen than usual. Its a bit like the battery on your cell phone, if you charge it when its only half run down it will deplete faster than it would if you charged it from flat. A half charged battery will not take on as much charge because the electrons can't compact as close as they would in an empty cell. End of physics lesson but the analogy is close to whats happening in your muscles. This glycogen depleation post WO gives you the window of to eat more than you would normaly. If you get the ballance right your muscles will be stuffed with glycogen but your blood sugar levle should have returned to normal minimising the chances of storing the carbs as fat, also the chances of losing muscle while doing cardio will be minimised. As you start your cardio workout you will use a little glycogen in the first few minutes but your cardio vascular system will soon deliver enough oxegen for you to start burning fat.

Also shaipnai83. I would advise against cardio directly post workout. this is where you should be refueling your system.
