I don't have any tatoos but my daughter does and I'm just postive that she had to keep them covered when she was out in the sun. I think it was for the first month, but I'm not sure.

Get it done BEFORE the beach if possible...and if at all possible try to get it done Two weeks prior to going so that it has sufficient time to heal.

During its healing period (1-2 wks) you are not supposed to soak it in water...and not much if any direct sunlight

Oh and, once it has been healed...you want to always keep sunscreen on it...i mean ALWAYS. I cover my tattoos with spf70 (ozone by hawaiian tropic i think) and the rest of your body with a normal like 8spf or somethin...

If i don't have sunscreen for the tattoos, i keep 'em covered with clothing.

Don't get a tattoo when you are drunk.

I kept mine covered in vaseline during the healing process, about two weeks. Definately keep it out of the sun till it is healed completely. And yeah, too much water will dry it up too quickly. It needs to stay moist till its healed. And I'm not sure about others, but I kept mine completely covered for two days afterwards because it seeps slightly for a few days.

A good friend of ours has done all of mine and all of them are still bueatiful today. With the oldest being 10 yrs old. Make sure the person doing it KNOWS what their doing!

A&D ointment first 2-3 days, several times a day. Wash with mild soap and water 2x a day. DO NOT keep it covered while healing. It needs the air to heal. DO NOT use neosporin or any thing like that, even if it scabs. After 2-3 days, apply a fragrence-free white lotion, such as Curel, several times a day. Really rub it in to keep the skin moist. Always keep it out of the sun either with clothing or a very high SPF sunscreen. Plan on using sunscreen on it for the rest of your life if you want it to stay looking nice. And here is a strange but effective tip, if it itches smack it (or have someone else do it) just once with the flat of your hand, or fingers if it is small. I actually got that one at the gym!

Try to avoid getting the area soaked with water. Try to avoid over-exposure to the sun, especially within the first month of having it.
