Carivan,

Here's the deal with Curves. For a beginner, it's not a bad place. Their basic concept is sound - overall body work, constant movement to keep the heart rate up.

Unfortunately, the workout itself gets stale very quickly as the body adapts to the routine, and the premise of HOW the workout is actually completed leaves the individual to be largely in control of their intensity level. Well, for someone at the "beginner" level that would be considering Curves, they probably don't know enough about intensity and/or will power to get the max benefit out of a workout like that.

Bottom line: IF you follow the program properly, IF you can keep your intensity level up, and IF you know how to change up the program when necessary, you'll see results. Unfortunately, those are a lot of "If's" for the beginning exerciser, and their time would be better spent with a good home exercise program with more variety if they are sick of the gym scene.

Just my 2 pennies, of course! :)

Curves is a womens quick gym, its a circuit training place that usually takes about 20-30 mins to get through...My job is places 3 doors down from Curves So I see it almost everyday...Their is really no equipment like a real gym...Hope that helps!

My wife goes there and has seen results. It is a very structured workout. They only downside she has seen is the hours they are open are limited! Good Luck!

i went to curves for a month, and in that month, i lost 10 1/4 inches. the only downside is that after a while, things get easy, and there is really no way to make things more difficult to help progress.

10 mths have pat and my wife went to Curves. She wanted to try it for a month and was told it would cost $99.00cdn registration fee, and $39.00 for the month.
Obviously she didn't join. The trainer (sales person) also said she can tain all her muscles everyday! I think the trainer is whacko, because muscles do need to rest and recover.
The conclusion to the soap opera 10 months later; my wife is coming to my gym tomorrow, and will be getting a program done by the same pt as myself. So, just had to vent a little about the other place!

I joined Curves in January and am looking forward to ending my membership at the end of the year agreement.

I have lost inches while going, but the hours are a downfall. Plus, they start out being helpful in the beginning, but now it's more of a social spot.

I prefer to work out without the conversations. Just a personal opinion.

Best of luck to your wife's training! I'm sure she'll enjoy it more than if she'd joined Curves.

I'll take that as a compliment, thanks, but I don't have the lifestyle and sport perfected as yet. In any case, I would only be my own guinea pig.
