I know that the optimal heart rate issue has been discussed a lot, but after reading some older threads, I'd like another opinion if possible.

Just some info to start: I'm a 16 year-old girl, I'm 5'1", I weigh about 125-7ish lbs., and I'd like to be around 110-115 lbs.

Most sites I've been to say that, in order to burn the most fat from your workout, you should be at 70% of your max. heart rate; for me, that's about 143bpm. I can exercise at this rate comfortably; I still sweat and feel challenged to a point, but I almost don't feel like I'm not doing enough.

Other sites, such as this one (http://exercise.about.com/cs/cardioworkouts/l/aa022601a.htm), say that a higher intensity workout is better. They argue that, even though a lower percentage of fat calories is burned when compared to a lower intensity workout, you burn more calories in total this way, which is more important for weight loss.

So....who do I listen to??

You listen to your body! Do what works for you. Mix it up, use cardio as an extension of your diet as needed. If you feel the need for HIIT, then do it that day. If you feel like a more steady state longer duration, do it. No right or wrong(unless you are a bodybuilder looking to preserve every ounce of lean mass for competition).
