I know cheese is a good source of protein. And I love cheese! :) My questions is: Are some cheese better for you than others?

I had heard a long time ago that the white cheeses (swiss, mozarella, etc) had less cholesterol than yellow cheese. Is this true?

I already eat fat free cottage cheese. I'm trying to get alternatives to give my diet some variety.

Cheese is a great source of protein, however, it is very high in fat. This fat is not particularly good fat either it is mostly saturated as it is from animal source. So you do have to watch the amount if you are watching fat intake and calories. There are some reduced fat cheeses but I find them to be rubbery and not very tasty. In general you can find the fat content listed on the package by %.

Read labels too I just looked up one slice of Harvarti 35% fat is 170 calories and a whopping 14gms of fat. One slice of Provolone 24% fat is 69 calories and 5 gms of fat.

I find Fitday.com helps me to keep track and calculate % it is also great for letting you know if you are meeting nutritional guideline eg. calcium vitamins and minerals.

Hope this helps.
