I was under the impression that cardiovascular workouts are a must for any fitness program, since a strong heart will increase your bloodflow to you muscles and therefore create a more efficient flow of nutrients to your body. So, since I am on a mission to tone up and get stronger, I was suprised to see that ft actually advises against doing cardio in conjunction with lifting. Perhaps I misread, but wouldn't it be best to get a good lifting workout, AND a good cardio workout?

Unless I misunderstand your question, it's not that cardio is not recommended, rather it's a matter of when. This topic is kind of like the protein supplement debate. I'm pasting a link to one of the better discussions I've seen on that topic.
Just noticed this was your first post. Welcome Mike.

Bodybuilding is what you are referring to. True, cardiovascular fitness is essential, but in the bodybuilding world, it is mostly impossible to build bigger muscles with lots of cardio also. Calories will have to be extremely high to offsett the caloric burn from cardio, and keep glycogen intact, test levels high, etc. So, therein lies the crux in this world, a choice between bigger muscles(within genetic limits of course), or leaner and more cardiovascularly fit(smaller muscles, but hard.
