i know that you should do at least 30 minutes of cardio three times a week, but is it bad if you do more. for example, like 45 minutes on a machine, and then running for like 30 minutes, all in one night?

It would depend on what your goals are, Cardio in itself is great for you. But if you are looking to bulk up thats not the way to do it. I do 40 min of cycling 5 days a week. Plus have martial arts classes 3 x week for 2.5 to 3 hours each class lots more cardio there plus the ft program currently the at home lose weight and tone and the 12 week abs.
