I was wondering if some of you fitness pros could help me out here. Can I still loose weight if I eat clean 6 days a week and allow myself one "cheat day". Will that drastically hinder my weightloss efforts?? I think havign a cheat day would help to keep me sane :). ~Thanks!

Yes you can still lose weight and be fit. Just dont totally gorge yourself with all things fattening. Knowing that I can have some 'unhealthy' treats at the end of the week keeps me from grabbing for them during the week.

Kerry,

In fact, having a cheat day HELPS you to lose weight. Your body adapts to your nutrition and exercise program, and as it always does, your body finds a way to deal with it's caloric and exercise levels using as few calories as possible. So, by taking a day off each week, you keep your body guessing about what you are up to.

However, that DOESN'T mean 3 meals at Burger King that day, and then 2 more at Dairy Queen, chased down with a case and a half of beer.

Please limit to 1 of each on your cheat day...... ;)~

What I try to keep in mind while having a cheat day is that there are approximately 3,500 calories in a pound of fat - I don't want to get close to that, which can be easy if you do as arronmp2003 said about Burger King, Dairy Queen, beer, etc, lol! So, I still pay attention, but I allow myself some enjoyment, for instance I would still watch my portion size (or I could go crazy and eat and eat those 3,500 calories before I knew it)! A cheat day is a great way to not feel overcome by it all and run out and give up, I think. What I do like to do on a cheat day is still work out on that day - if I have a "day off" of working out, I try not to let it fall on my cheat day, too, that way I am still burnin' some calories off, just my personal preference!

Good luck to you and welcome to FT!

Fat Sunday, that's what it's there for. If you are drastically trying to lose weight, then you probably don't want a cheat day, per se. What you can do is allow yourself one good item that day, say one burger or an order of wings or something. Calories are like money in a bank, just because you save good the rest of the week (i.e. save 250-500 calories a day) doesn't mean you can blow 2000 calories at the end of the week. It all balances out.
