I don't work out my calves when I do weights. I figure with 2 step classes, 1 running day and 1 kickboxing class a week, my calves get enough of a workout. I love my calves as they are and don't want them to get any bigger - they are hard as a rock and the perfect size as far as I'm concerned (the ONLY part of my body I absolutely wouldn't change). But, they do get sore after running or step classes. Should I start working my calves into my leg routine, maybe low weights, high reps just to build for endurance?
If you are training for aesthetic reasons only (eg just to look better) and you like your calves why worry? If however you feel your calves are prohibiting improvement in other areas then think about it. The reason they are sore is because they are doing work in these classes, so there stamina will increase in time anyway.
I guess I wasn't very clear in my post...someone told me that the reason they get so sore when I do cardio is because I'm not building the right muscles in weight training.
