how do you become a faster sprinter training with the treadmill, when you can always run the max easily for some 40 seconds? You can't run any faster, because the max only goes up to 10, so how would you train to gain the speed?

If you want to gain some speed try using inclines when using the treadmill. Do you have any hills in your area? If so, start running hills. Hills will help out with explosiveness.
If you want to gain speed in the 40 start training in the 60. That will cut your time down some.

Becoming a faster sprinter won't happen on a treadmill.. treadmill can help your endurance but it doesn't go fast enough to help w/ your sprint

Why do you need to get faster? In track we used these sleds with weights on them to help our speed. You could also buy specially made parachtues that provide resistance as you run.

It is very difficult to train for speed. Unlike with endurance training, the more you do the better you get, being a fast sprinter is more of a genetic thing. Either you are born with "fast-twitch" muscles or not. Of course you can still train to become more powerful in your legs which will increse your speed some, but don't expect to be an olympic sprinter with only practice. Good luck with your training.

Hills.
440s & 880s on a steep incline & do quick strides.
Two elements increases runners speed:
1. The force of the pushoff (hills will help this)
2. The frequency of the strike (quick strides will help this)

Being a former sprinter and the captain of my track team i know a few good ways to increase your sprint and endurance speed.
To establish your endurance for sprinting ( how long you can stay sprinting ) you should begin by runnign anywhere from 5-10 miles a week. Including the recommendations I listed below.
Yes hill training and over-speed training are crucial. You should start doing 100 yard lunges to help improve your stride to increase speed as well as practicing starts. Also, you can Sprint 30 seconds and walk 30 seconds any of these with the proper diet, cardio, and exercise will help, aid and increase your sprinting speed.
-------------- Don't think you cant do it know you can do it.
