I get a soar back from time to time for no apparent reason sometimes for the past few years. Are there any lifts I can do to get this random pain to decrease?

This site has some fairly good tips:

You can also use the fitBuddy search engine at the bottom of this page. Years ago when I had some major problems, I avoided heavy overhead moves. If you have access to a lat bar you can do some heavy pulldown movements. That has an affect similar to traction that helps relieve some disc pressure on the sciatic nerve. I'm fairly certain the search on this site will give you plenty of info but if you don't find what you want, feel free to send me a personal message. This is one area I've had more experience in than I care for. :)
